Career
With advanced training in Neurology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Suranjana Basak has worked across leading tertiary neuroscience centres, stroke units, neurocritical care services and multidisciplinary hospitals in India, with experience in stroke medicine, epilepsy, neuroimmunology, headache disorders, movement disorders and complex neurological emergencies.
Her specialist neurology training at Fortis Hospital, Mohali–Chandigarh under the National Board of Examinations included focused work in acute stroke care, epilepsy management, EEG and neuro-electrophysiology, autoimmune neurological disorders, neurocritical care and inpatient neurology. She has additionally contributed to the development of stroke pathways, neurodiagnostic facilities and structured neurological protocols within hospital practice.
At Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, she has been involved in advancing comprehensive neurology services including stroke-unit development, epilepsy care, neurodiagnostics and emergency neurology protocols. Her work has also extended to Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and Mukat Hospital, Chandigarh, where she contributed to neuro-oncology support services, neuro-emergency frameworks and multidisciplinary neurological care.
Her earlier experience includes work as a consultant and teaching faculty at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Indravati Hospital, MGM Medical College & Hospital and Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital, with extensive exposure to intensive care medicine, endocrinology, infectious diseases, diabetes care and multisystem medical disorders.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a key role in establishing and coordinating large-scale critical care facilities for the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, contributing to the functioning of dedicated COVID ICUs and high-capacity treatment centres alongside multidisciplinary healthcare teams and public health systems, for which she received national recognition and multiple awards.
